Trail Pasture Renovation Project
Beginning Tuesday October 29, 2024, the pasture that our trail horses call home will undergo much a much-needed renovation! Though the Lowcountry is a beautiful place to live, it can be challenging area to manage a herd of 50 horses. We have battled mud and drainage issues in our main pasture for decades, often having to completely relocate our herd to different areas due to unsuitable conditions following heavy rains. We have worked diligently with a team of engineers and excavating companies to plan the complete resurfacing and regrading of the field. We will also be replacing all the fences during this time.
Please bear with us as we navigate the challenges that come with such a large undertaking- here are some answers to frequently asked questions!
Will you still be offering trail rides during construction?
Yes, we have relocated our mounting area/ departure point to a new area to keep all horses and riders safely out of the construction zone.
Riders will continue to check in at the Lawton Stables office 45 minutes prior to their ride time where they will receive directions to the new departure point. Keep in mind our availability will be limited so please book your rides well in advance, when possible, especially around the holidays. See map below.
Where are the horses living during construction?
We have moved many our horses to their vacation property in Bluffton, SC where they are enjoying some extra PTO. They spend their days grazing and lounging under the trees. The horses that remain here ready to take our customers for rides are living in the field across Greenwood Drive next to Heritage Garden.
How long will the project take?
This is dependent on many factors, some of which are out of our control (i.e., weather) but we are hoping to be finished up in early 2025.
Will you be open for carriage rides/ pony rides/ small animal farm during construction?
Yes, please come out and see us! We will be keeping a close eye on the work being completed and will pause entry if needed to keep everyone safe. We do not anticipate much interruption, if any, in these areas of the farm.
Where can we find updates?
